When anxiety functions to protect the body from danger and for strengthening the body
to fight against a stressful situation, it is normal and useful. However, when the levels of anxiety
become disruptive to activities of daily life and already affect personality and behavior, then it
can be a damaging to one’s life. Anxiety that crosses over to the maladaptive realm is often
characteristic of anxiety disorders.
